The Hard Way, the Soft Way or the Third Way to the Mobile Enterprise

1 Mar, 2008

Lars-Michaël Paqvalén, CEO & Founder of Telepo, held a speech on the future of business communication at the GSM Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 14, 2008.

The presentation includes a short review of the history of communication up
to the modern times of seamless communication for the mobile enterprise. It
looks at the traditional way of communicating using PBX's and other hardware
technologies ("The Hard Way"), as well as proprietary software based
solutions for communication ("The Soft Way") compared with an open and
mobile solution that is centred on the user - "The Third Way".

Lars-Michaël Paqvalén says: "The future of business communication is not
only convergence. The industry has been talking about it for years,
approaching it either from a perspective of extending fixed communications
into the mobile sphere, or from a mobile perspective and the substitution of
fixed systems. But neither of these approaches is appropriate in achieving
true mobility - they are too technology centric. The only way to take
communications to the next level is by adopting an open standard based
user-centric approach."

"User centricity is more than providing easy interfaces across devices. It
means a seismic shift in the way operators and developers think about users:
technology is an enabler, not a solution."

The session was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Lars Vestergaard
from IDC with Lars-Michaël Paqvalén and further representatives from
Microsoft, Motorola, Orange and Accenture. You can download the full presentation below.
